StudyNext Privacy Policy

StudyNext ("the App") treats the protection of user privacy as a top priority and sets out the following Privacy Policy ("this Policy") regarding the handling of personal information and study data.
1. Information We Collect and Its Purpose
To provide a stable service, sync data, and enable communication between users, the App collects and uses the following information.
| Information collected | How it's collected / stored | Main purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Study data (study plans, goals, daily tasks, progress, completion status, etc.) | Stored on-device, and on the user's PDS (Personal Data Server) | Algorithmic schedule calculation, multi-device data sync, dashboard visualization |
| Study records (study time, self-rated concentration, difficulty, reflection text) | Stored on-device, and on the user's PDS | Learning analytics, history charting, real-time sharing among friends |
| Messages and status sent within Study Rooms | User's PDS | Displaying real-time chat between users in Study Rooms, syncing progress |
| Authentication credentials for AT Protocol (Bluesky) integration (handle, display name, avatar image URL, app password) | The app password is encrypted and stored only in local secure storage (never sent to our servers) | Automatically signing and writing study data to the PDS repository via AT Protocol, displaying the in-app profile |
| Anonymous data for purchase processing (anonymous customer ID, device identifier [iOS: IDFV], app version, OS version, IP address, purchased item ID, transaction ID, purchase date/time) | Automatically sent to RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) servers from app launch | Processing and verifying in-app purchases (support features), preventing fraudulent purchases, managing purchase history |
The App does not, in principle, automatically collect anonymous statistical data via general crash-reporting tools (such as Crashlytics) or web analytics tools (such as Google Analytics). However, error logs may be shared with the developer within the scope the user has consented to, via the anonymous crash-reporting features provided natively by the OS (iOS/Android).
2. Data Sharing and External Transmission
Processing of Study Data (Fully Local Processing)
Data processing performed within the App — such as backward-calculating study workloads and assigning review dates using the SM-2 algorithm — is completed entirely by programs built into the user's own device. No data is ever sent to AI vendors or external analytics servers for the purpose of processing study data.
2-1. RevenueCat (Purchase Processing)
The App uses an SDK provided by RevenueCat, Inc. (California, USA) to process in-app purchases (support features). The RevenueCat SDK is initialized at app launch, and the following data is sent to RevenueCat's servers.
- Anonymous customer ID (an identifier that does not personally identify the user)
- Device identifier (iOS: vendor identifier [IDFV]; Android: an anonymous per-install ID)
- App version, OS version
- IP address (used only to confirm connectivity; deleted per RevenueCat's retention policy)
- If a support purchase is made: the purchased item ID, transaction ID, and purchase date/time
This data is never used for advertising purposes and is used solely for purchase verification, fraud prevention, and purchase history management. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.
Transmission to AT Protocol (Bluesky) (PDS)
When AT Protocol (Bluesky) integration is enabled, study records, plan data, and simple in-room chat/member records you create are automatically sent directly from the app to your own PDS, which you manage and contract independently — without passing through any other relay server operated by us.
AT Protocol is a public, decentralized network. Data sent to a PDS is stored in a public repository (public registry), and may therefore be viewed or retrieved by other Bluesky users or by external APIs, search engines, and crawlers operated by third parties. If you have study records you'd like to keep private, please turn off integration, or turn off the public-visibility status of individual records.
3. Outsourcing and Third-Party Disclosure of Personal Information
Disclosure to Outsourcing Partners
To process in-app purchases (support features), the App outsources the handling of anonymous data — to the extent necessary for purchase processing — to RevenueCat, Inc. (California, USA). Appropriate arrangements have been made regarding the proper management and security of personal information for this outsourcing.
Third-Party Disclosure
We do not sell, provide, or share user data obtained through the App with third parties, except in the following cases:
- Where the user has given their own consent
- Where required by law (e.g. a disclosure request from a court, police, or other public authority)
4. Data Retention Period
| Type of data | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Study data / settings on the local device | Until the user deletes the data or uninstalls the app |
| Study records, chats, etc. on AT Protocol (PDS) | Until the user requests deletion (see the PDS deletion section below regarding effects on distributed caches, etc.) |
| Purchase-processing data via RevenueCat | While the service relationship with RevenueCat is active, and for 6 years thereafter (per RevenueCat, Inc.'s privacy policy) |
5. Data Deletion and Requests for Disclosure, Correction, or Suspension of Use
Deleting Local Data
You can completely delete study data and authentication credentials from your device by uninstalling the app, or by using "Delete data locally" in the app's settings screen.
Deleting PDS (Repository) Data
You can delete (DeleteRecord) the App's custom records (app.studynext.*) on your PDS by using the "Delete all data" feature in the app, or by using any AT Protocol–compatible data management tool (including those provided by your PDS or by third-party clients/tools).
However, due to the structure of decentralized protocols, deletion may not reach archives, backups, or relay caches independently obtained and stored by third parties; these remain the user's own responsibility to manage.
Requests for Disclosure, Correction, or Suspension of Use of Personal Information
Under applicable data protection law, users may request disclosure of personal information held by us, correction, addition, or deletion of its content, and suspension of use, erasure, or cessation of third-party disclosure. Please send such requests to the email address below.
Requests to: vercy.app@gmail.com
Given the nature of the App, data on the local device and on AT Protocol (PDS) can be directly managed and deleted by the user via the procedures above. Disclosure or deletion of purchase-processing data provided to RevenueCat will be handled according to RevenueCat's own process (compliance@revenuecat.com).
We may contact you to verify your identity when handling a request. In principle, we aim to respond within 14 business days of your inquiry.
6. Privacy Protection for Minors
The App does not intentionally collect data from users under the age of 13.
Because the App does not operate any server under our control, we have no authority or means to directly search for or delete data that a child under 13 has registered with or submitted to the App.
If it is discovered that a child under 13 has used the App without a guardian's consent and has sent personal information to a Bluesky (AT Protocol) PDS, the guardian should take the following actions:
- Uninstall the App from the child's device, or use "Delete data" in the app's settings to erase local data
- To delete data on the PDS the child used, use an AT Protocol–compatible data management tool (including third-party tools), or request deletion directly from the operator of that PDS
7. Changes to This Policy
This Policy may be revised without notice due to changes in law or in the service. Where a significant change is made, we will promptly notify users within the app. The revised Privacy Policy takes effect from the moment it is posted within the app or on this page.
